Genetic diversity of Nipah virus in Bangladesh

چکیده

BackgroundNipah virus (NiV) infection, often fatal in humans, is primarily transmitted Bangladesh through the consumption of date palm sap contaminated by Pteropus bats. Person-to-person transmission also common and increases concern large outbreaks. This study aimed to characterize molecular epidemiology, phylogenetic relationship, evolution nucleocapsid gene (N gene) NiV.MethodsWe conducted detection, genetic characterization, Bayesian time-scale analyses NiV using pooled Pteropid bat roost urine samples from an outbreak area 2012 archived RNA case patients identified during 2012–2018 Bangladesh.ResultsNiV-RNA was detected 19% (38/456) among them; nine N sequences were recovered. We retrieved 53% (21 out 39) patients. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that all Bangladeshi strains belonged NiV-BD genotype had evolutionary rate 4.64 × 10?4 substitutions/site/year. The suggested diverged 1995 formed two sublineages.ConclusionThis provides further evidence Malaysian genotypes recently continue evolve. More extensive surveillance bats human will be helpful explore strain diversity virulence potential infect humans direct or person-to-person transmission.

Genetic Characterization of Nipah Virus, Bangladesh, 2004

Until 2004, identification of Nipah virus (NV)-like outbreaks in Bangladesh was based on serology. We describe the genetic characterization of a new strain of NV isolated during outbreaks in Bangladesh (NV-B) in 2004, which confirms that NV was the etiologic agent responsible for these outbreaks.

Nipah Virus Encephalitis Reemergence, Bangladesh

We retrospectively investigated two outbreaks of encephalitis in Meherpur and Naogaon, Bangladesh, which occurred in 2001 and 2003. We collected serum samples from persons who were ill, their household contacts, randomly selected residents, hospital workers, and various animals. Cases were classified as laboratory confirmed or probable. We identified 13 cases (4 confirmed, 9 probable) in Meherp...

Foodborne Transmission of Nipah Virus, Bangladesh

We investigated an outbreak of encephalitis in Tangail District, Bangladesh. We defined case-patients as persons from the outbreak area in whom fever developed with new onset of seizures or altered mental status from December 15, 2004, through January 31, 2005. Twelve persons met the definition; 11 (92%) died. Serum specimens were available from 3; 2 had immunoglobulin M antibodies against Nipa...

Characterization of Nipah Virus from Outbreaks in Bangladesh, 2008–2010

Nipah virus (NiV) is a highly pathogenic paramyxovirus that causes fatal encephalitis in humans. The initial outbreak of NiV infection occurred in Malaysia and Singapore in 1998-1999; relatively small, sporadic outbreaks among humans have occurred in Bangladesh since 2001. We characterized the complete genomic sequences of identical NiV isolates from 2 patients in 2008 and partial genomic seque...
